If The Shoe Fits…

Paulo Nutini’s “New Shoes” pretty much encapsulates my mood today – I went shoe shopping! While that may not be cause for celebration in your life, I’ve been wearing flip flops for the last six months while my feet recover from surgery. Hey, don’t race on to the next sentence. Dwell on that with me…SIX MONTHS!!!! I challenge you to pack for a business trip while working around a flip flop (or flip-flop-like sandal) constraint. How about dressing for a cocktail party? Yeah, I thought so. I’m all about the flops normally, but after a while I’d pretty much rather wrap my feet in cleaning rags and call it a day. It sure wouldn’t make me feel any less put together!

Incidentally, the foot takes longer to heal than any other part of the body, so if you’re in the market for some fancy footwork, plan accordingly. By chance more than design, I did. Just now am I able to get into some non-flops, and not a minute too soon; I’ll avoid frostbite without having to resort to Uggs.

Women’s shoe designers have GOT to be in cahoots with podiatrists. 98% of the merchandise at DSW hurts too much to even contemplate wearing while sitting down, much less to walk in them… at least for a foot that hasn’t been regularly subjected to the atrocities of inflexible leather walls, torturous shapes, and heels that distribute weight in a completely unnatural way. Happily, DSW has a huge inventory and I was able to find four pairs of shoes that I like and can tolerate.

Congratulations on the new shoes! I’m so glad you finally go to go shoe shopping… was it fun, or just painful? Oh and by the way, I have been reading your blog primarily through email, but I saw the test and took a peek- nice bio :)We need to quit playing phone tag and talk! What weekend soon is good for you to come up? love!

Glad to learn that you’re on the mend! I know the clothes horse in you must be chomping at the bit to get into something fashionable. At least the timing was pretty good for your flip flop phase. Take it easy as you begin to transition back to fancy footwear!
